Habana
Havana, capital of Cuba and one of the most important cities of Central America lies in the northern part of the island and is bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, to the stretch of waterfront of the city spread over seven kilometres which is known as the Malecon. The city is divided into three parts: Havana Vieja, the Center with the Prado and the Vedado with the Plaza.
Havana, thanks to its geographical position, enjoys an ideal climate that makes it visitable during almost the whole year. The old town (the first part) of the city dona in Havana an antique look: in 1982 it was declared a world heritage site. Unlike this core, the plan devised in the 1920s/1930s to reshape the City Centre (the second part), led to the disappearance of the splendor of the old town. It departs completely the third part, modern, where prestigious houses, museums, restaurants, hotels.
Havana is a city vibrant, multiethnic and full of enthusiasm. Fans of the colourful old town steeped in odors, congregate at Dos hermanos, coffee in front of the historic terminal Sierra Maestra, where cruise ships dock. Next, Havana Club, covered in wainscoting with tables where you can taste the excellent rum. But the address secret, known only to Cubans, is the Mirador de la bahía, on the terrace of the Palace which hosted the first American Embassy. To be discovered at sunset, when the light winds of PINKS the castillo del Morro, the 17th-century fortress on the Western tip which marks the entrance of the access channel to the Bay. Walking along calle Obispo between museums, galleries and restaurants housed in restored houses, you will reach the wide square dominated by the convento de San Francisco de Asís, 16th-century but rebuilt in Baroque style in 1730: in its Crypts are buried the aristocratic families of the time. In front there is the customs, the only port, according to Alejo Carpentier, a writer in love with Cuba, in which the ship enters the heart of the city. "The appearance of Havana, when entering the port", wrote Alexander von Humboldt in the early 1800s, "is one of the most delightful American coast north of the equator." Just A few minutes, in the middle of calle Mercaderes, la casa Simón Bolívar dedicated to South American hero: shaded patios, galleries plans. You can admire magnificent aras, Amazon parrots, in large cages; in another room, a nice collection of hammocks of Latin America. Within walking distance, two frescoes with pyramids and Palm announce egipciana Columnata, a pleasant Café serves fresh juices from papaya to passion fruit pineapple.
